Sustainable San Mateo County is preparing the ground for changing society.  We can't simply arrive at a sustainable world...we have to co-create and live our way into it together. The Sustainability Hub is SSMC's newest community resource for promoting a healthy economy, environment, and society in San Mateo County. This first-of-its-kind webtool provides the community with an easy way to share and gather trusted solutions and local resources, as well as the first and only Bay Area Green Jobs Board.

The Sustainability Hub is an online resource toolkit tailored for San Mateo County individuals, community groups, businesses, and cities. Building upon SSMC's Annual Indicators for a Sustainable San Mateo County Report, the Hub illustrates the connections between what is happening in the Indicators Report and how we can make improvements. Extensive needs assessments with our community revealed that the most immediate need is a local sustainable solutions and resource database to connect citizens and organizations with locally relevant information to become sustainable.

Plenty of solid, credible sustainability information already exists, and there's no need for reinvention. Rather, the need is to improve the channeling, distribution, framing, and messaging of this information, and to support people in converting this information into knowledge, and their knowledge into action.

Connecting local product and service providers with the people working towards sustainability strengthens local communities and economies. As a community tool, the Hub allows everybody to contribute to developing the content, thus empowering citizens to participate in helping to transform their region.

So dig in and help us create a more sustainable San Mateo County.

Share. Learn. Take Action!

Established in 1992, Sustainable San Mateo County (SSMC) is a nonprofit dedicated to the long term health of our region's economy, environment and social equity.  We live, work and play in this beautiful part of the world and want to preserve its natural heritage and our quality of life for future generations.  We provide fact-based information and resources in order to raise awareness of sustainability in our county, and to improve our ability to make sounds decisions for the benefit of future generations.

The Sustainability Hub is the result of two years of public outreach, research and development, spearheaded by SSMC.  Of course, creating this innovative new community resource was a team effort.  SSMC partnered with Dominican University's GreenMBA program to scope, develop and conduct research for the Sustainability Hub.  Earthsite, LLC has worked with us to turn the vision of the Sustainability Hub into a beautiful and functional website.  Following are the key team members from SSMC, the GreenMBAs, and Earthsite.
