Rebates
Energy Upgrade California is a rebate program that requires energy assessments. Rather than incentivizing any one upgrade, it encourages people to analyze their whole house as a system. Homeowners may qualify for one of two rebates: the basic package or the advanced package.
The basic package is a prescriptive rebate, where a homeowner simply needs to receive the upgrades on the list to qualify for $1,000. In our experience, these upgrades are essential to the vast majority of the housing stock in San Mateo County.
The advanced package is based on calculated energy savings. When a homeowner receives an energy assessment, the energy leakage in the home is measured. Energy contractors can estimate the savings from installing specific upgrades to the home. After the upgrades are finished, a homeowner receives a rebate based on how much they reduced their energy leakage. The less energy you use, the higher the rebate.
