Childcare can be a significant part of a household budget, especially during tough economic times. But there are a range of childcare options available to parents in San Mateo County that can assist with the expense of childcare.
Programs offered by Cal Works, CEL and the Child Care Coordinating Council (4C's) all help fund all or partial payments to childcare or preschool centers. The CEL program is linked to the 4C's program. All three of these programs offer free to low-cost childcare and preschool programs in San Mateo COunty. Some subsidies are funded by the state, known as General Alternative Payment Program (GAPP). There are also federal subsidies known as Federal Alternative Payment Program (FAPP).
Some families might not qualify for these types of programs but are still struggling. It doesn't hurt to try applying for some of these programs anyways. You never know if you might get accepted, or the programs will be able to help direct you in the right direction to receive the proper help your family needs.
All these programs and childcare centers listed below offer some type of subsidy to help afford the cost of childcare in your area.
