Bottom Line: The Samaritan House provides a wide array of valuable free services and resources to low-income residents of San Mateo County with a focus on preserving dignity and increasing self-sufficiency.

Established in 1974, Samaritan House is a non-profit health and human services organization with over 30 years of experience in providing a broad range of free services and resources to low-income residents in San Mateo County. Each year they provide 9,000 visits in their two free medical clinics, supply more than 400 people with a warm bed, make over 120,000 meals, collect over 400,000 pounds of food from food drives and distribute 40,000 new toys to children.
Their mission: to improve lives, promote self-sufficiency, preserve dignity and create effective opportunities. Programs include bilingual client services, case management, free medical clinics, hot meals and food bags provided daily, year round shelter provided for the homeless, job training programs, housing assistance, holiday food and toy distribution and a work resource center where 21% of potential workers are employed daily.
Samaritan House is an effective link between community resources and those struggling with basic/emergency needs. Over 70% of their revenue is donated from private groups and individuals in the community. For every dollar you donate to Samaritan House, 86 cents goes directly to the programs. Samaritan House would be unable to provide such a wide breadth of services without an extraordinary commitment from the community, which helped them form their motto, "neighbor helping neighbor."
