Program Organizer

The Housing Leadership Council of San Mateo County (HLC) seeks an energetic Program Organizer to organize campaigns and events to accelerate creation of homes in San Mateo County that ordinary families and individuals can afford. The program organizer will lead or support a range of tasks, including advocacy, program organizing, and administrative support.

This position involves a range of tasks and roles that will evolve as organizational priorities do. Therefore, we value flexible individuals who want to grow with our organization. A successful candidate will demonstrate creativity, focus, energy, organization, and interest in the mission of HLC. Because HLC is a small organization, we have great flexibility and collegiality, and in turn
we require independence, responsibility and self-motivation.

JOB DUTIES
PROGRAMS

Advocacy
· Monitor local policy developments, key meetings and entitlement processes for housing developments
· Develop materials and key messages
· Identify, recruit, train, and mobilize individual and institutional advocates
· Represent HLC on committees, within regional coalition efforts and in public forums

Events
· Affordable Housing Week (May): Weeklong series of public awareness events
o Enlist HLC member organizations in organizing events
o Coordinate planning committee
o Publicize the week and distribute outreach materials
o Organize 1-3 core events (trainings, panels, consumer-focused fairs, etc)
o Coordinate volunteers or other part-time help as needed

· Housing Leadership Day (October): Annual conference of local housing professionals and advocates, with 200+ attendees.
o Prepare and send sponsorship solicitations
o Coordinate planning committee
o Design program and content design
o Assist with recruiting speakers
o Plan and coordinate event operations (work with vendors, sponsors, etc.)

Public and Member Communications
· Support production of quarterly Newsletter; monthly Email Newsletter;
· Maintain and update website and online housing database
· Respond to public inquiries, including those from persons seeking an affordable home
· Facilitate member communication meetings, such as brown bag discussions on specific
topics or other community forums

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT
Membership and Fund Development Support
· Enter membership dues, grants, and gifts in Access database
· Generate donor acknowledgement letters
· Prepare and send annual membership renewal and recruitment mailings, and other fundraising solicitations as needed

Board & Committee Support
· Attend Board meetings and assist with preparation as requested
· Support Program Committees (Project Endorsement, Policy and Organizing Committees)

Miscellaneous Administrative Support
· Assist in maintaining mailing and contact lists
· Participate and sometimes lead in periodic mailings of between 50 and 450 pieces
